Since 2000 the A28 has seen 4,303 collisions, 73 of them fatal and 637 serious. That ranks it 81st of 6,754 numbered A, B and M roads by total recorded collisions. Its fatal rate is 17 per 1,000 collisions, and 17% caused death or serious injury. Collisions have fallen by about 49% since 2000, from 222 to 114 in 2024. The heaviest local concentrations are in Ashford, Canterbury and Thanet.
