Since 2000 the A587 has seen 1,220 collisions, 13 of them fatal and 185 serious. That ranks it 394th of 6,754 numbered A, B and M roads by total recorded collisions. Its fatal rate is 10.7 per 1,000 collisions, and 16% caused death or serious injury. Collisions have fallen by about 53% since 2000, from 74 to 35 in 2024. The heaviest local concentrations are in Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde.
