Since 2000 the A590 has seen 1,679 collisions, 54 of them fatal and 273 serious. That ranks it 269th of 6,754 numbered A, B and M roads by total recorded collisions. Its fatal rate is 32.2 per 1,000 collisions, and 19% caused death or serious injury. Collisions have fallen by about 62% since 2000, from 109 to 41 in 2024. The heaviest local concentrations are in Westmorland and Furness, Cumberland and Adur.
