Since 2000 the A609 has seen 1,563 collisions, 25 of them fatal and 235 serious. That ranks it 298th of 6,754 numbered A, B and M roads by total recorded collisions. Its fatal rate is 16 per 1,000 collisions, and 17% caused death or serious injury. Collisions have fallen by about 60% since 2000, from 87 to 35 in 2024. The heaviest local concentrations are in Nottingham, Erewash and Amber Valley.
