Since 2000 the A90 has seen 4,362 collisions, 177 of them fatal and 977 serious. That ranks it 79th of 6,754 numbered A, B and M roads by total recorded collisions. Its fatal rate is 40.6 per 1,000 collisions, and 26% caused death or serious injury. Collisions have fallen by about 73% since 2000, from 226 to 60 in 2024. The heaviest local concentrations are in Aberdeenshire, City of Edinburgh and Aberdeen City.
