Since 2000 the M55 has seen 662 collisions, 13 of them fatal and 95 serious. That ranks it 730th of 6,754 numbered A, B and M roads by total recorded collisions. Its fatal rate is 19.6 per 1,000 collisions, and 16% caused death or serious injury. Collisions have fallen by about 46% since 2000, from 35 to 19 in 2024. The heaviest local concentrations are in Fylde, Preston and Blackpool.
